iOS 18 is not so cool

Apple recently released iOS 18 update for iPhones and iPads. The final version of iOS 18 launched with the iPhone 16 series. Even though iOS 18 and the iPhone 16 mainly focus on Apple intelligence, it was not released with the iOS 18. Instead, they delayed it to the iOS 18.1 update. There is a twist in this, Apple mentioned these AI features will not be fully available from iOS 18.1 onwards. However, it will be released from time to time in iOS updates until iOS 18.6. In my opinion, we should wait until the iPhone 17 to fully enjoy Apple’s intelligence.

However, in iOS 18 apple made big changes, they broke some of their strategies to give their users a good experience. They have let users customize the devices as they want (which is more like Android). This is not a part of Apple’s strategy, but it makes the user experience better.

I liked the iOS because of the minimalism, the sleeky UI and the ecosystem. From the new iOS version apple failed to give the impression of a smooth UI and seamless transitions. For me, now it feels like One UI. (which I didn't like). I was a Samsung user for years and I switched to Apple because of iOS and its seamless experience. But sadly, iOS is becoming another One UI.

I have found a considerable number of bugs in iOS 18. The major concern is the UI is very laggy and transitions are not smooth. Sometimes it drops the refresh rates below the average, which is noticeable when scrolling. Also, when I dialled someone and they answered from the other end, the interface got shaken (This issue persists on all my colleagues’ phones). A RAM management issue made apps close automatically ( This was fixed in the 18.0.1 update). Even though they sent an 18.0.1 update to fix some bugs, above mentioned bugs are still in place. But apart from these issues battery life is massively improved in the iOS 18.

However, we have to wait and see what they bring to us with the iOS 18.1 and future updates. How the AI can be useful for daily routines and how it works. Also, I hope Apple will work on seamless transitions to reduce the system lags (which made iOS better all these years) and give a good user experience as they did in the past which impressed me a lot.
