The term open source refers to something people can modify and share because its design is publicly accessible. Most people love to use open-source software because they don’t need to get any subscription to work on it. Most startups and students are used to open-source software. However, there are some good and bad impacts when it comes to this topic. There are lots of open-source projects similar to proprietary software. So the advantage of open-source software is it can process the workflow without any subscriptions.

Security is the main concern nowadays. There are lots of security breaches happening all around the world and it’s a very big challenge to store and transfer our data safely. When it comes to open-source projects, the codes of the projects are open, so anyone can access the code and find vulnerabilities in the software. But the developers are following best security practices to keep the data and the software secured. Some myths are going that the open-source software projects don’t care about the security of the software much. They have no motivation to develop because they are not making any financial income from it. But this is wrong because they make money from ads and they are getting donations to develop their projects.

So if you think that you want to try out open-source software, yes you can try but follow best practices to keep data secured. Research before downloading, Is the software maintained by a trusted community? Is it getting new updates?. If you are already using open-source projects, Always update the software to the newest version. If you are using this for an organization, try to automate the security checks using security tools.

Whether it’s proprietary software or open-source, it’s important to maintain a robust security posture that monitors for vulnerabilities and protects the data.

opensource software is not secure than proprietary software.
